Assessment of Safety in Public Transit in Kenya

March 10, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

About this event

Safe public transit for women and girls accounts for and accommodates the reality of the travel patterns of women and girls. Public transit trips have the potential to be less safe since many women must walk through, or wait in, unsafe areas in order to access public transit. Moreover, at odd times of day and in isolated places, public transit may be unreliable (by necessity many women must travel through the city very early in the morning and late at night) (Peters, 2002,7)

This project based training aims to document security pain points and strategies adopted by different cities in the world to ensure inclusive development in public transit systems. In Nairobi Kenya this project will explore and analyze what safety means for commuters using public service vehicles. The project will be anchored around 3 pillars : Data collection, Data Analysis and Data Visualization.

This is the first workshop in this training series that will cover tools, strategies and ethics of data collection.
